Turkish Evening - Fri 9 May, 7.30pm

Mark Jones' presentation

Thank you to Mark Jones for an excellent talk on the current human rights situation in Turkey. There was a good turnout to hear fascinating insights into cases that Mark, a prominent human rights barrister, has been observing in Turkey. He also explained his invlovement in the training of senior police officers and judges in human rights law throughout the country. He described a worrying trend to silence opposition to the Prime Minister by arresting and detaining thousands of politicians, journalists and lawyers in recent years as well as closing down social media such as facebook and Twitter in the run up to local elections.

Thanks also go to Bloxham School for use of their lovely lecture room and Michael Price, the Chaplin, for assisting with the organisation of the evening.
