Local Group Activity Pack July 2015: Gaza Crisis, Real Lives and more

This summer we're asking you to campaign for justice in the Gaza conflict, continue your work to save the Human Rights Act, and act on behalf of individuals whose rights are being denied. We've also got a number of opportunities to join our volunteer team of country specialists.

Act for justice in the Gaza crisis

Palestine has a right to seek justice via the International Criminal Court – Tell the UK to stop threatening them

8 July marks a year since the beginning of the 2014 Gaza conflict and we're asking you to support the right to seek justice for war crimes committed.

To date, no perpetrators have been held accountable for war crimes and other human rights abuses and victims of the conflict have had no justice. This climate of impunity, if left unchallenged, will lead to yet another horrendous conflict in Gaza and Israel with yet more children, women and men killed and horrifically maimed.

Save the Human Rights Act

As you are aware, the UK Human Rights Act remains at risk. Your great campaigning ahead of the election and immediately afterwards helped ensure that it is still here, for now. But we need you to keep up the good work and show local support for this key piece of human rights legislation.

Real lives

Our work to support individuals in their fight for human rights continues, and this month we're asking you to take action on nine cases including: American whistleblower Edward Snowden, whose right to asylum continues to be blocked; Atena Farghadani, a cartoonist imprisoned in Iran for her work; Eritrean politician Aster Fissehatsion who remains incommunicado; and Ihar Tsikhanyuk, beaten by police in Belarus simply for being gay.

Become a Country Coordinator

We rely on a network of volunteer country specialists who work directly with researchers at our International Secretariat to ensure that we remain engaged and informed of human rights developments around the world, including those that might not directly relate to any one of our core campaigns, or work on individuals. We have two vacancies to join this dedicated team of volunteers:
  • 1 vacancy in the Europe team (focus on Turkey)
  • 1 vacancy in the South America team (including focus on Brazil)
