Sutton Amnesty 50th Anniversary Logo

The Sutton branch of Amnesty International is celebrating 50 years of service to Human Rights.  Please join the group on

Saturday, 14 June from 11am till 1pm

Sutton High Street – just outside Peacocks (SM1 1DU)

Rededicate the Amnesty International Plaque

We will rededicate the Amnesty International plaque and the Sutton group’s continued commitment to the promotion of Human Rights.

The Mayor will lead other speakers including Leader of the Council Barry Lewis, Luke Taylor MP, Councillor Richard Choi, CEO of Amnesty UK Sacha Deshmukh and founder member Adrian Esdaile.

There will be a stall with information on

  • Amnesty International - a global movement which campaigns to end abuses of human rights; and
  • Examples of the local group’s work.

There will be an opportunity for you to make a difference by signing letters on those Prisoners of Conscience our local group is supporting: Dr Mohammed Al-Roken, a human rights lawyer from the United Arab Emirates, Alaa Abdel Fattah, the British-Egyptian writer and human rights defender currently imprisoned in Cairo, and Chow Hang-tung, a barrister imprisoned in Hong Kong for participating in a peaceful vigil commemorating protesters killed in the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown.

Please join us

If you are planning to attend, it would be appreciated if you could reply back to our Sutton Amnesty email address, so we have a rough idea of the number of attendees.

More information about the Sutton Amnesty plaque and it's location can be found here.
