About this group

Glasgow West Amnesty local group has been active in the West End of Glasgow for over 30 years. We meet on the second Thursday of every month to work on Amnesty campaigns, and hold regular fundraising and awareness-raising events.

About us

Glasgow West is a committed and sociable Amnesty local group. We hold monthly meetings and do public awareness-raising through stalls and letter-writing events. Our annual comedy night at the Stand has raised thousands of pounds for Amnesty over the years. Our other main fundraiser is our pub quiz.

Every year some of our members attend the Amnesty UK National Conference and AGM. We set aside group funds to help as many members attend as possible.

New members are very welcome to join us!!

Campaigns

We have taken part in many Amnesty campaigns. Our current campaigns include women's rights in Afghanistan and action for individuals, including campaigning for the release of Salidzhon Abdurakhmanov, prisoner of conscience in Uzbekistan. As well as working on campaigns at our meetings we also send urgent actions to members on our email list.

Group meetings

We meet on the second Thursday of every month at Woodlands Methodist Church.

At a typical meeting we do our campaigning work – mainly writing letters and arranging future events. We sometimes host visiting speakers or run Amnesty workshops. And we almost always fit in a break for a cup of tea.

If you can't come to our meetings, you're welcome to stay in touch by signing up for our minutes or coming along to our events.

We also have an events group which meets in between our group meetings to plan ahead.

Where we meet

  • Bus: First no. 4/4A to Woodlands Road or 6/6A to Great Western Road
