Minutes of Belfast Amnesty Group meeting 13 January 2014

December minutes:  Paul discussed December 2013 group minutes.

 

Write for Rights: Beatrice advised over 250 cards & appeal letters were written during the groups Write for Rights session in December 2013. Carolyn commented that she thought it was the best Write for Rights session we’d had. There was much agreement to this. Helen was thanked for the publicity she provided for the letter writing session in the Human Rights festival brochure.

 

NI Conference: Paul advised the NI Conference on 25 January 2014  would have 3 speakers discussing: 1. AIUK reporting back on the IEC & a look at where the movement is. 2. The recent AI report on NI – Dealing With The Past. 3. A talk on Syria by the AIUK Syria country co-ordinator.

 

Guest Speaker:

The Sri Lankan Human Rights Activist Geerthanshan Manoharan (Gee), provided an account of human rights developments and issues in the country.

 

Action:

We signed appeal letters for  Sri Lankan journalist Prageeth Eknoligoda who is a victim of enforced disappearance.
