Minutes Group Meeting February 10th 2014

Minutes of Belfast Amnesty Group Meeting 10th February 2014

Attending: Claudia, Lee, Paddy, Heiko, Carmel, Liz, Beatrice, Leo

Apologies: Pearse, Carolyn, Paul

Claudia summarized the minutes from January 2014 meeting. There were no comments on this.

NI AGM feedback:

The feedback from the group was very positive. General consensus was the Dealing With the Past talk was very interesting & informative. The talk on the IEC was also praised. The feedback on the venue was positive. Heiko commented that he would have liked the AGM to have been a full day rather than just a half day. Beatrice commented one more session after lunch would have been good.

Rwanda Action:

Claudia advised the Rwanda country coordinator, Rona Keen, would speak to the group at the June meeting about the case. The case is due to be closed in July as Agnes is due to be released then. Rona has asked if we want to continue working on West Africa. No one had any problem with this though it was decided we can make a definite decision closer to the time.

The group each wrote a further letter to the Rwandan government appealing for Agnes’ early release.

Childrens Campaigning:

Claudia spoke how she would like the group & AI in general to do more work on childrens’ cases. That AI shoud do more actions on children. Claudia advised that previous feedback from the IS has been very limited. Claudia advised this is disappointing especially as the 25th anniversary of the Human Rights Convention of the child is this year. Lee agreed with Claudia.

Belfast Group AGM.

Claudia advised the Belfast group will have it’s AGM at one of our meetings in the next couple of months & if anyone wanted to run for Chair, Secretary or Treasurer  to have a think about it.

AIUK  AGM

This will be held in Edinburgh 12-13 April. Beatrice advised there was still a concessionary place available for the group & if anyone wanted to claim this place to do so asap.

Any other business:

Paddy has donated £40 to the group. This was given to Carmel to lodge & Paddy was thanked.
