Denied legal gender recognition

Sakris is a 21-year-old medical student fighting for the reform of gender recognition laws in Finland which currently violate the rights of individuals to be free from cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. The current process can take years and forces individuals to choose between the right to have children and the right to have their chosen identity recognised legally.

Sakris has been subject to harassment, intimidation and even violent threats for defending trans rights in Finland. So much so that he had to take a year off from his studies. Despite all the challenges, he remains determined to continue his campaign for equality for trans people.
