Threatened for standing up to big business

Pavitri Manjhi lives in the Chhattisgarh state. She is Adivasi - an indigenous people living in rural communities throughout India.

Her community is under threat from construction companies who want to evict them from their land to build power plants.

Pavitri has filed multiple complaints against them, which has resulted in endless harassment and threatening behaviour from the companies.

‘Strongmen’ visited her home and told her: ‘Everyone who helped you file the complaints are outsiders. They will not be able to save you and we will silence them.’

Pavitri reported the harassment to the police but little has been done.

Every message counts: together we can help Pavitri and her community stay on their ancestral land.
