November Meeting Report
Great to see so many of our group attend our session this evening. Thanks for making the effort.
- Collection Day results - £286.70 in total received for the day from both in-person and online donations. Definitely worth while doing!
- Viewing of the Hong Kong documentary (about Jimmy Lai) at our October meeting. Very powerful documentary - supported by HK Programme lead, Thomas.
- 13th Dec W4R stall in Woking Town Centre. Group agreed this should proceed. Steph to send specific email to the group asking for volunteers to staff the stall. Steph is also to send application into WBC asap and get hold of the gazebo from Leslie. Keith wants the book "everyone is born free" to be used at events to assist with communicating HR issues with members of the public. Benson/Indy to look into producing some material to show the HK situation and draw more HK to support our work.
- Monday, 1 Dec W4R monthly group meeting (Human Rights Day!). Monica to organise getting campaign material sorted. Keith wants us to promote this with other churches and groups more (Steph indicated that the HK group could be contacted as well as the Soroptimists..plus she had arranged for the HK Programme to send her 100 action cards for Hong Kong cases identified by AI).
- Speaker - Mel from Interfaith group. Discussed her coming to our February meeting. Steph to contact her.
- Closure of Guildford Group (sad however I believe Arianna has other exciting plans for new group) and transfer to funds to our group's bank account (THANK YOU!). Lynda confirmed that the monies had been received successfully.
- update on Nataly's case. Nataly provided an update. Not much progress but Family Court cases have been in the news recently, plus we agreed as a group to submit a motion for 2026 AGM.
- Update on regional Group meeting held 18 Oct (very successful). Working with local groups more.
- Indy's performance yesterday - anniversary of HK liberation from Japan and parallels with the current situation in Hong Kong by the Chinese government.
- AOB - Lynda provided an update on the finances of the group. We agreed to provide our annual donation to Trinity Church and pending the cost of postage for the W4R campaign, we may be able to donate something to AI UK in the new year.
I will look to send out a letter for everyone to sign individually in the next week or so, but more letters/cards to be signed at our next meeting on Monday, 1 December - usual venue!
Best wishes, keep well/safe.
