May 2025 Update

A couple of the members met last week as normal. Due to foreseen/unforeseen circumstances, the numbers were low, however, we are still very much alive and doing our best! Below the latest updates since the last communications.
Pakistan event
Suffice to say that logistics were against us in April when the church was locked so the Pakistan event that was meant to be held there was moved to the local Mosque. Both Zafar Iqbal, local activist and Cherry Bird, AI Country Coordinator, gave a fascinating update on the situation. The key actions to come out of that were:
- Write to MP about disappearances (template available, attached)
- Make sure Ahmadiyya are treated respectfully and inclusively in UK
- Raise awareness about climate change and its effects.
- Deportation of Afghans from Pakistan.
Thanks to Keith and Monica for organising the speakers. In future, when holding these types of events, we will have them just be online only to avoid a Monday night closure issue or logistics issue.
Family Courts Crisis (Nataly's case)
We are still yet to make progress on this front. We attempted to submit a motion but were too late. We will be meeting with the Standing committee rep in the near future to understand what we can do, but time has been an issue for all of us so unable to progress this further.
Hong Kong Event - 31 May, Saturday, 14:00-16:00, Trinity Methodist Church
Progress has been made even if it has been a little last minute. I have been working (mostly supporting Indy and Benson who've done the real work) in putting this event together. We have a very basic Eventbrite event page for those wishing to come along. We have some amazing speakers organised, and confirmation that AI UK support our event proceeding. Hopefully things go to plan and look forward to seeing you there. I am also sending the details to the Woking News & Mail so we should get some wider publicity.
Our next meeting will be in a few week's time, Monday, 2 June where we will provide updates on all our events, discuss/agree the AGM Motions, agree agenda for remainder of the year.
Thanks for support.
