March 2022 update

Monday's meeting was devoted to discussion of Ukraine. Amnesty International officially describes the entry into Ukraine by Russian forces and attempted occupation as deliberate 'Aggression' which is an abuse of the sovereign right of the Ukrainian people to choose their own destiny according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Amnesty will also monitor and log human rights abuses on the ground to be made available to the court of the Hague to use in any future indictments and prosecutions.

There are more HR abuses occurring around the world which we cannot ignore so can I ask everyone to do an Urgent Action letter.

Zhang Zhan, a citizen journalist detained by Chinese authorities after actively speaking out about politics and human rights issues in China and has spent some time on on hunger strike. We must demand that she has access to medical attention and pending her release, she must also be allowed regular access to her family and a lawyer of her choice, and she must not be subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.
