Stop the Rights Raid Event With Andrew Mitchell MP
Sutton Coldfield Amnesty International Group held an online event with the royal town’s MP Andrew Mitchell to explore changes to human rights legislation in the UK.
Forming part of the Amnesty’s national Stop the Rights Raid campaign, discussions covered the Policing Bill, the Nationality and Borders Bill, the Judicial Review and Courts Bill and the Human Rights Act.
Mr Mitchell has attended Sutton Coldfield Amnesty International debates in the past but this was the group’s first online discussion.
Andrew Mitchell MP said “It was good to have the opportunity to speak to Sutton Coldfield’s Amnesty group again and join their online event. Amnesty International has a flourishing group in Sutton, and I always enjoy the opportunity to discuss some of the most challenging international and domestic human rights issues with local members. It is an excellent, very friendly group and I would encourage anyone that is considering joining to make an enquiry!”
Group chair Andrew Hindle said: “We are very grateful to our MP for his open, honest and informed discussions with the group and for answering the many questions put to him. We always appreciate his input to our debates and his responses to our many letters. We will continue to work with the national group to influence Government policy on all of these issues.”
Sutton Coldfield Amnesty International meets at 8pm on the second Tuesday of the month. The group is currently meeting online.
