Visitors to refugee camps

Louise Bennett and Rabiyah Latif

We were delighted to welcome two speakers to our April meeting with special, first-hand experience of working with refugee families in camps both in the UK and France. They told a packed meeting about their contrasting experiences of state cruelty on the one hand and interpersonal generosity and kindness on the other.

Our speakers were Louise Bennett whose expertise is as a Social Worker for unaccompanied refugee children, and a volunteer who has taken donations to the Calais refugee camp and Rabiyah Latif who has seven years’ experience of working to integrate refugees in Birmingham.  She is also a volunteer who has taken donations to the Dunkirk refugee camp. Both speakers gave moving accounts of their experiences.

Louise makes trips to the camps in France at her own expense and is able to take donations of sleeping bags, blankets and non-perishable food with her. Anyone who would like to contribute to the refugee families she supports can make donations to the community café in Snitterfield Village Hall on the first Sunday of the month or email her: louise65246@gmail.com
