Annual Death Penalty Report 2014

We have had a busy year with many cases and individuals on whose behalf we have written.

All told we have written on behalf of 1874 individuals, some of whom were in large groups involving two countries, Venezuela (105 people) and Egypt (1705 people).

Our cases involved 20 countries, including the two above. The others were Angola, Bahrain, Belarus, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, USA and the Yemen.

Eleven of the people we campaigned for were executed. One man was reprieved, two had their executions postponed, three were released, one had his death sentence commuted, one was still at risk, and one had a retrial ordered. One man attempoted suicide in prison and there were two cases charged with blasphemy, one of whom was shot but not killed by a guard. Three cases involved women, one of whom had her sentence overturned and another was released. Two cases involved minors one of whom was a girl.

The most executions reported occurred in the USA (9).
