We usually meet at United Reformed Church Rooms, St Georges Rd , St Annes, FY8 2AE, at 7.30 on the first Monday of every month.  The date and time may vary if we have a speaker, so please check the details with us if you are planning to come for the first time. Please Email our secretary: jenniferjaynes@live.co.uk

Every year Amnesty International UK invite us to select which countries and campaigns we would like to focus on as a group. We discuss and vote on this, and our current chosen areas for 2014 are:

  • The 'Stop Torture' Campaign
  • Central America , focusing on Guatamala
  • To continue to support  the Amnesty International UK campaign for Women's Rights in Afghanistan.

Amnesty International has campaigned against torture for over half a century.  Thirty years ago we helped to secure an historic global ban.  Unfortunately the governments that signed up to it have failed to live up to their promises. They still use torture to obtain 'confessions', to silence opposition - or simply to punish.

Torture is hidden away from the world's gaze, its victims feel forgotten and isolated. We would like to make sure that the outside world can see what happens to them.

We also hold events to raise funds for Amnesty International UK and to raise awareness of  the work of Amnesty International. Some of our group members visit schools to give talks to students.

You are very welcome to come along to the meetings, or to take part in any of the individual events which we will advertise on this website. Hope to see you soon!
