Writing for Human Rights at Ely Cathedral Centre: Saturday 6th April

Afghan Woman Creative Commons

Can you spare ten minutes to write a letter on behalf of someone who has been falsely imprisoned, or who has “disappeared”?

We are running a “Write for Rights” event at the Cathedral Centre on Saturday 6th April from 10.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. Anyone who cares about human rights is invited to come along and write letters in support of two individuals held in prison in China and Iraq, and two who have disappeared without trace, probably abducted by security forces, in North Caucasus and the Gambia.

There will also be a petition to support Afghan women. The shocking fact is that 87% of women in Afghanistan experience some form of violence and abuse and there are fears this will increase when international forces, including those from the UK, prepare to leave the country next year.

Refreshments and all letter-writing materials including template letters to copy will be provided, and everyone is welcome.

If you can’t make it in person, you can sign the online petition under Priority Actions.
