Town Festival

Minding an Amnesty stall can be fun! At this year's Town Festival on 29th June we welcomed lots of visitors to our stall which was loaded with bric a brac, books and - for our first time - plants. With most items priced at £1, we raised some £235! Thanks to everyone who emptied their cupboards for us and to all those who made purchases or gave donations. Every penny helps Amnesty to carry out its work in protecting human rights for everyone.
Our prominent information board highlighted the plight of the BK16, lawyers, academics and activists in India who were imprisoned because of their criticism of the government and their work supporting low caste, ethnic and religious minority groups. Visitors were invited to sign cards of support for the 6 people still in prison; others, granted bail, are under house arrest and one has died. We know that just receiving a card can make a positive difference for a prisoner who might otherwise feel very alone.
Just a small action or a small donation can change lives for the better! And, working together with other Amnesty Group members, it can be enjoyable too!
