Flying the Flag

Chippy Amnesty hoisting the Human Rights Flag on Human Rights Day, 10th December

On International Human Rights Day we are delighted to have been joined by Sandra Coleman, Mayor of Chipping Norton, to raise the Human Rights flag on the town's flagpole in the Millennium Garden.  This special flag has been designed for Amnesty International by Chinese artist and activist, Ai Weiwei, who was inspired by seeing so many barefoot children in refugee camps, all making their footprints in the muddy ground, and so all equally able to make their mark on the world.

We hope there will be more of a breeze to show the flag in all its glory!  If you'd like to see it up close, visit our stall tomorrow (Sunday 11th December) at Christmas in Chippy, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.  We'll be promoting the work of Amnesty whilst selling cards and raffle tickets!
