meeting about Gaza
Goher Rahbour, surgeon at West Suffolk Hospital, gave a powerful presentation on Saturday, at the Quaker Meeting House, about his very recent experience of working in Gaza for a month. Those attending - about 50 people - at the invitation of Amnesty International, Bury St Edmunds, were profoundly moved by his eyewitness, evidenced account of the shocking situation there, affecting the general population as well as the medical staff themselves. The Gazan medics are subject to the same malnutrition and have also lost family members and friends, as well as their own houses. Despite appalling conditions and threats to their own safety, the medical staff are carrying out inspiring humanitarian work. During the presentation we thought about the Israeli hostages, as well as the trauma of the Israeli people, many of whom do not support the ongoing genocide of the Palestinians.
We are profoundly grateful for such courageous, skilled people.
