Notes from December and January meetings

At our January Meeting,  Kay led a discussion of  the results of the recent E.G.M. in which the most important resolutions, stopping the increase in funds to be sent to the global south and stopping planned redundancies at A.I.UK , were defeated.

See below for an attached summary, written by our West Mids. Rep., of the overall results plus a letter from the Chair of the Board.

The December Group Action was about asylum issues. We are invited to write to our M.P to ask them to support an increase in the allowance paid to asylum seekers while they await Border Agency decisions. This is currently just over £5 /day for sinlge adults.

If you would like to take part in this action the link, giving all the information including a very useful briefing note about many asylum issues, is:
The West Midland Group's resolution at last years A.G.M called for more activity by A.I.U.K. on asylum issues. Ralph Brunholtz from the Wythal Group is organising a meeting with A.I.UK staff on a Saturday afternoon in late Feb.or very early March in Birmingham. The object will be to encourage A.I.UK. to plan more actions on asylum. I will let you know the final date as soon as Ralph lets me know.
