Inspire students to take action to help stop human rights abuses across the globe.

These two downloadable lessons, created by Amnesty International and the Anne Frank Trust, explore human rights through the life and legacy of Anne Frank.

Students will learn about freedom of opinion and expression, examine a real case of repression, and engage with powerful writing.

Through discussion and creative activities, students are encouraged to think critically, challenge censorship, and take action for human rights.

The lessons are recommended together for students aged 14+, with the first lesson also suitable as a stand‑alone option for ages 11+.

These resource packs engages Primary and Secondary aged pupils aged in literacy and human rights through the powerful act of letter writing.

Using real case studies and images, pupils explore global issues, expand their vocabulary, and develop persuasive writing skills by writing letters to support people whose rights are at risk.

Developed by literacy specialists, the pack can be taught over two or three one‑hour lessons and supports learning across subjects including English, Citizenship, Geography and PSHE, whilst promoting global awareness, empathy and action for human rights.

Write for Rights

Amnesty International’s “Write for Rights” campaign takes place annually around 10 December, which is Human Rights Day (commemorating the day when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in 1948). Write for Rights aims to bring about change to the lives of people or communities that have suffered or are at risk of human rights violations.

Write for Rights channels this support towards people targeted for their peaceful activism, views or personal characteristics to protect their right to protest and express themselves freely.

Find out more about Amnesty's Write for Rights campaign and find out how you can take action today and change a life forever.
