Dear Member,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a candidate for election onto the Amnesty International United Kingdom (AIUK) Section Board in 2026.

There are three seats available on the Board at the 2025 election:

To stand for election you must have been a member of AIUK Section since 27 August 2025. You must also be at least 16 years old on 16 July 2026.

For the Country Coordinator reserved seat, you must be a serving Country Coordinator of Amnesty International UK Section.

Applications are particularly welcome from candidates with any of the following areas of experience or knowledge:

  • Experience of living with disability (as disabled people are currently under-represented on the Board)
  • Lived experience or strong understanding of the human rights issues that Amnesty International UK works on
  • Experience of activism within AIUK and / or within other grassroots campaigning organisations and / or the ability to engage with AIUK’s activist communities
  • Ability to play a Board leadership role in an area of information technology systems, data management, cyber security or artificial intelligence applications
  • Ability to play a Board leadership role in the oversight of safeguarding for under-18s and vulnerable adults.
  • Ability to play a Board leadership role in the oversight of fundraising or mass marketing.
  • Good ability to understand and interpret organisational financial reporting (though not necessarily with formal financial qualifications).

Candidates without any of the above skills or experiences are still welcome to apply.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Nomination Papers and Application Forms must be completed and received by the Returning Officer by 5pm on Friday 27 February 2026. Please contact tim.hancock@amnesty.org.uk if you have not received a reasonably prompt confirmation of receipt of your documents.

One final tip: please do check that you and your proposers are fully paid-up members of the AIUK Section for, at least, the six-month period immediately preceding the deadline for nominating (27 February 2026). You can do this by contacting our Supporter Communications Team sct@amnesty.org.uk.

If you have any enquiries regarding the nature or substance of the Board role, please do not hesitate to contact the Nominations Committee via nomcom@amnesty.org.uk.

If you have any questions about the nomination or election process, please contact me at returningofficer@amnesty.org.uk.

We appreciate that this is a somewhat complex process, and we would like to assist you as much as possible.
