Lies and deceit
Years ago a friend went to visit a country that shall remain nameless. She returned early, muttering about lies and deceit. Governments that specialise in human rights abuses usually either stay silent or issue statements that attempt to make their actions seem reasonable and legal. Some of the lies are transparent, at least to anyone who is well-informed. Big lies are commonly used, following the line of the Nazi propaganda expert Joseph Goebbells, saying for instance that the country has an excellent reputation for human rights.
