To His Excellency Andrey Kellin, Ambassador to the UK,

I am calling on you to urge the Russian authorities to drop all charges and release Aleksandra (Sasha) Skochilenko immediately, as she was charged solely for peacefully exercising her rights.

JAILED FOR PROTESTING WAR

Aleksandra Skochilenko

Sasha peacefully protested the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She was arrested and faces 10 years in prison. Call on the Russian Embassy to help secure her immediate release.

When Russian forces invaded Ukraine, Sasha felt compelled to take action.

She decided to peacefully protest by replacing price tags in her local supermarket with small labels carrying information about the the war.

Less than two weeks later, police arrested and jailed Sasha, charging her with a new law that was created to stop people from speaking out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

She is one of dozens of people who have since been detained for this ‘offence’.

Sasha is not a criminal. She is an artist and musician who was living a happy, peaceful life with her partner Sonya, before she was detained.

She has been detained since March and has been denied appropriate food to help her manage her coeliac disease, meaning she has been forced to go hungry.

She has also been consistently bullied and harassed by both staff and other inmates.

If Sasha is convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison.

Sasha has done nothing wrong. Freedom of expression is a human right. Wherever this right is threatened, injustice can thrive.

Tell the Russian government to release Sasha immediately and unconditionally and drop all charges against her.
