I call on the Iranian Embassy in the UK to:

Support independent, impartial, and effective investigations into the deaths and arbitrary detention of civilians, including the death of Mahsa Amini, including by allowing access to independent, international monitors to places of detention. Those responsible must be held accountable

Demand Iranian authorities urgently repeal laws that impose compulsory veiling on women and girls, perpetuate violence against them and strip them of their right to dignity and bodily autonomy

Embassy of Iran: end the bloodshed in Iran now
During protests in response to the death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, Iran’s authorities have used violence, killing dozens, with impunity. Recent unrest follows decades of human rights violations in Iran. Join us to demand the bloodshed end.
The tragic killing of 22-year-old Mahsa (Zhina) Amini by Iran’s “morality” police has sparked nationwide protests. In violent crackdowns, authorities have tried to crush calls for respect of human rights. Over 100 civilians, including at least 23 children, have been killed with impunity since 19th September 2022.
On the ground, Iranian people are calling for: Zan, Zendegi, Azadi (Woman, Life, Freedom) - a global rallying cry in the face of brutal repression.
Iranian women and girls are leading a movement for the respect of human rights. Women face discrimination in law and practice. Compulsory veiling laws have led to daily harassment, torture, imprisonment and in the case of Mahsa Amini, her brutal death. At least 6 women’s rights defenders are imprisoned for their campaigning on bodily autonomy.
On 30th September 2022, Iranian security forces killed at least 66 adults and children, injuring hundreds during a violent crackdown after Friday prayers in Zahedan.
Iranian authorities do not want the truth to be revealed. They have attempted to shut down the internet, cover up evidence, as well as intimidating families of victims like Mahsa Amini. The families of 16-year-olds Nika Shakarami and Sarina Esmailzadeh have been coerced into reiterating the official narrative that their children died by “suicide”.
These protests are not the first in Iran, and may not be the last. In 2009, Neda Agha Soltan and scores of others were killed by authorities, while the 2019 protests left over 300 dead at the hands of state forces. In 1988, prison massacres resulted in past and ongoing crimes against humanity.
