This Safety of Rwanda Bill is an assault on the rule of law and the protection of human rights in this country. It is an attack on the basic principle that human rights are universal – the Bill suspends basic human rights protections and attacks people’s ability to ask courts to protect those rights against government abuse.

The Rwanda Bill was only introduced after the Supreme Court - the highest court in the UK - ruled that Rwanda was not a safe country to send people seeking asylum. Instead of accepting the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court, the Government is trying to pass a law to declare Rwanda is safe - regardless of the facts.

The fact is, the Government is trying to avoid facing the dreadful consequences of its longstanding asylum policy of refusing to take responsibility for the claims the UK receives - which has left tens of thousands of people seeking sanctuary stranded in limbo. Find out more about the devasting impact of this policy here.

People fleeing persecution and war from countries like Afghanistan, Syria, and Ethiopia should receive compassion, not cruelty.

The Rwanda Bill should never have been introduced and Amnesty UK calls on peers to oppose it in its entirety. Read more about our why Peers should oppose it here.

Will you join us in standing up to this cruel and immoral Bill?
