The South Banha prosecutor renewed on 18 June the detention for human rights defender Hanan Badr el-Din for 15 more days.

Urgent Action: Activist in solitary confinement for 1234 days in Egypt

On 4 February, the Cairo Administrative Court postponed activist Ahmed Douma's appeal against his prolonged solitary confinement to 16 May. He has been held in poor detention conditions since his arrest on 3 December 2013.

Urgent Action good news: Fifth and final activist in Abdeen case released in Egypt

Gamila Seryel-Dain, the last jailed activist from the group of five activists sentenced in the ‘Abdeen case’ to two years in prison for violating Egypt’s repressive 2013 protest law, was released on 14 March after receiving a presidential pardon. All five activists have now been released.

Urgent Action update: Egyptian prisoner in solitary confinement on hunger strike

Ahmed Amin Ghazali Amin has been on hunger strike since 9 March, in protest against his solitary confinement, which he has been held in since May 2016, when he was sentenced to death by a Military Court. An appeal hearing is still due to be set. If rejected, he could be executed at any time.

Urgent Action update: Six men at imminent risk of execution in Egypt

Six men submitted their final appeal to the Supreme Military Court in December 2016. The men were sentenced to death by a military court in May 2016, in a case marred by enforced disappearances and torture. If the court rejects their appeal, the men could be executed at any time.

Urgent Action update: Tortured to confess child faces 15 years in jail in Egypt

The trial of 15-year-old Aser Mohamed has been adjourned to 27 December. He faces a string of charges, including belonging to the banned Muslim Brotherhood group and attacking a hotel, based on “confessions” that he says were obtained under torture after 34 days of enforced disappearance.
