Prisoner of conscience and Nubian activist Mohamed Saleh Sorour (aka Gamal Sorour) died in custody in Aswan on 4 November

The Egyptian authorities have detained at least 57 people for their perceived sexual orientation.

Detained human rights lawyer Ibrahim Metwaly is being held in solitary confinement.

Ola al-Qaradawy and her husband Hossam Khalaf have been detained in solitary confinement since 3 July.

On 12 August, the Cairo criminal court adjourned Mahmoud Abu Zeid's court hearing 19 August, for the 35th time. Today is the four-year anniversary of Mahmoud Abu Zeid arrest.

Human rights defender Tarek Hussein was released on 27 July. After being arbitrarily detained for 40 days, the former prisoner of conscience has now joined his family.

Another 10 Uighur students were forcibly returned by the Egyptian authorities back to China, bringing the total to 22 in July, while approximately 200 more remain at risk of being forcibly returned to the country.

Human rights defender and lawyer Tarek Hussein has been arbitrarily detained by the Egyptian security forces for more than a month, despite the prosecutor’s decision to release him on bail on 18 June.

According to media reports, around 150 Uighurs have been detained in Egypt and have either already been, or are currently at imminent risk of, being forcibly returned to China. If returned, they are at real risk of serious human rights violations.
