Osama Bin Laden: Reaction

Following US President Barack Obama’s announcement today that Osama Bin Laden has been killed during a US-led operation in Pakistan, Amnesty International Senior Director for Research Claudio Cordone said:

“Osama Bin Laden took credit for or supported acts around the world which amounted to crimes against humanity and inspired others to commit grave human rights abuses.

“His death will put an end to his role in organising or inspiring such criminal acts.

“We do not know the full circumstances of his killing and that of others with him and we are looking into that.”

Bin Laden was accused of planning and leading a number of mass attacks against civilians, including in New York and Washington in September 2001.
