The explosion took place on the Corniche in central Beirut near the derelict St George’s Hotel, and caused extensive damage to the road, cars and the fronts of buildings.
Amnesty International condemns such deliberate attacks against civilians. Such acts are absolutely prohibited under international law.
The organization calls on the Lebanese authorities to immediately investigate the killings and ensure that those suspected of having carried out or ordered the attack are brought to justice in accordance with international standards for fair trial.
