Write for Rights

Join us this year to support the annual Write for Rights campaign, either at our stall at the top of Sheep Street between 9.30 and 3.00 on Saturday December 5th or throughout December in Holy Trinity Church.

We are focussing on four particular cases: Phyoe Phyoe Aung from Burma who is facing jail for a student protest, Yves Makwambala and Fred Bauma for promoting democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraa Al-Taweel from Egypt who has been denied access to health care or proper legal advice and from Saudi Arabia, Waleed Abu al-Khair, jailed for 'insulting the judiciary'.

Join us and make sure they are not forgotten.

In particular, this year we plan to encourage our MP, Nadhim Zahawi to sign a card of support for Waleed who is a human rights lawyer and has represented many people who support freedom of expression in Saudi Arabia. He is currently serving a 15 year prison sentence for 'crimes' including 'insulting the judiciary' and 'disobeying the ruler'.
