December diary

Our focus this month has been on Write for Rights, the greetings card and letter writing campaign. This year, instead of our usual street stall we have encouraged members to hold their own card signing event. Members, their families and friends have been busy writing solidarity cards in support of one or more of the featured cases in Amnesty's Write for Rights booklet. In particular we have been supporting:

Eren Keskin (Turkey) a lawyer and outspoken defender of human rights for over 30 years, Eren has been subjected to death threats, physical attacks and sustained judical harrassment.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe (Iran) Nazanin is a British-Iranian charity worker who was arrested in April on her way home to the UK with her two year-old daughter, since then she has been subjected to solitary confinement and accused of plotting the 'soft overthrow; of the Islamic Republic.

Ilham Tohti (China) A Uighur academic, Ilham Tohti is a prominent critic of the Chinese government's policies in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2014.
