Summer 2025
Amnesty Group Saffron Walden’s 50th birthday celebration!
This year’s Garden Party is on Sunday 13th July, 5 – 7pm at 3 London Road (CB11 4ED), home of Paul, our Group Chair.
This annual event, also known as the Cheese and Wine Party, has been a feature of our group’s summers for many years and this one will be special as we will be celebrating 50 years since the Saffron Walden Amnesty Group was founded.
We hope to have at least one of the founder members, from that inaugural meeting in May 1975, present with us. Please join us if you can, to mark this milestone for the group – a huge achievement, I’m sure you’ll agree.
There will be the usual choices of wine (or soft alternative drink), cheese, bread, snacks, plus cake, obviously!
The tortoises will be joining us again, by popular demand.
The Garden Party is primarily the group’s summer social gathering with the chance to chat to other members and supporters in a lovely and informal setting.
There will also be a few action letters to sign – it wouldn’t be an Amnesty event without those!
It is also an opportunity to raise some funds to subsidise the group’s activities which mainly focus on our monthly letter-writing sessions. We are delighted that these continue to be brilliantly well supported with dozens of letters being posted out after each meeting. Our problem is keeping up with paying for the ever-increasing postage charges! We therefore do need to increase our local funds to meet these considerable costs.
Entrance will be kept at £5 per head, which includes a plate of food and the first drink, but we ask for a donation for further drinks.
Please remember to bring some cash with you. There will be the usual raffle. Could you donate a prize? Contact Paul on S/W 500226 or on paulgadd1@hotmail.co.uk .
We very much hope a good number of you will come along to the Garden Party to help us celebrate our special birthday; fingers crossed for the “right sort of weather” – fine and dry!
If you are unable to attend the event, would you consider sending a donation instead? If so, please contact our Treasurer, Maureen Evans on S/W 522836 or via maureenannevans@yahoo.co.uk . Payments can also be made direct to our group bank account by bank transfer: 20-74-05 00774960 (Saffron Walden Group Amnesty International).
Group AGM
On Tuesday 15th July, we’re holding our group AGM before the letter-writing session.
The AGM will start at 7:30pm at Paul’s - 3 London Road. Do join us if you can.
