Recent and Forthcoming Events for Richmond and Twickenham Amnesty

GOOD NEWS!

At our craft stall at Richmond May Fair we made £390 and collected many signatures for Amnesty's petition calling for an end to violence towards women in Afghanistan. A big thank you to all who turned out to help in spite of  bad weather.

Following this success, we are participating in the Teddington Makers Craft Market at Elleray Hall on Saturday 15th June from 10.30am-4.30pm. We need helpers for this event too.

If you can spare a couple of hours to help, or you have craft items of your own which we could sell, please contact Catherine Dolan via email: catherinemdolan@hotmail.com or telephone on 0208 943 3985 or 07748 701801.

Otherwise, please just come along and support Amnesty by shopping at our stall and signing our petition.

JUNE MEETING

Our June meeting will be as usual on the second Thursday of the month, 13th June from 8:00-9:30pm at The Windsor Room, St Mary's Church Hall, Church Street, Twickenham, TW13 NJ.

We are fortunate to have a speaker who will talk to us about the current situation in Syria and in particular the life and work of the late activist and film producer Bassel Shehadeh. He will also be showing us this film:

"Syria Through A Lens: The life and works of film maker Bassel Shehadeh"

Bassel Shehadeh was a Syrian film producer and well-respected activist, killed on 28th May 2012 during a government assault on a neighbourhood in Homs. Shehadeh played an integral role in organising and documenting the peaceful protests that have swept Syria since the Arab Spring. This event will be a screening of Syria Through A Lens, a film that brings together a collection of works by and about Bassel, capturing the beauty of Syria and the inspirational courage of the Syrian people in the face of adversity.

The screening will be followed by a discussion panel which will highlight some aspects of the Syrian revolution and peaceful activism among the increasing violence out there.

We hope that many R&T members will be able to come along and support this important event.
