Plans for our April 2012 Meeting

Our April meeting will be next Thursday, 12th April at St. Mary's Church Hall, Church Street, Twickenham starting at 8pm.

First the good news. For many years our branch and individual members have supported the Burma campaign to release the Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest. Now she has won an election, but much more needs to be done.

Then the bad news. The Syrian dictatorship continues to massacre civilian protestors. Does this mean that our 50 years of protest, letter writing, campaigning and research have failed because the progress to democracy in many countries has been wiped out by oppression in many others?

To review this problem and to lead a discussion, Jim McClusky will be our speaker at next Thursday's meeting. Come along and express your ideas as to how we can effectively move into a tolerant and compassionate world.

Regarding Richmond May Fair on Saturday, 12th May, we need to finalise our organisation for the fair and confirm who can come along to help and what hours they can be on our stall.

Hope you can come next Thursday!
