Forthcoming Events for R&T Amnesty

As usual, we will have no R&T Amnesty meeting during August.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 8 September, when Jamie Wheeler- Roberts, Amnesty's country co-ordinator for North Africa,  will update us on women's rights in Morocco, Tunisia etc.

Toward the end of that meeting, we will be giving out materials for our annual Street Collection, which will take place on Saturday 8th October, in the borough of Richmond.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of our Street Collection – and we have a fantastic opportunity to break the £½M total barrier raised during those 30 years! To achieve this, we need to raise just over £40,000 this year, requiring the recruitment of an additional 1,000 collectors for 2016. Can you help us do this?

If you are able to help collect, please come along to the Thursday September 8 meeting to pick up collecting tins, permission slips and other useful equipment.

If you are unable to make the meeting on 8 September, but would like to collect on Saturday 8th October, please let us know and we will do our best to deliver materials to you.

At our 13 October 2016 meeting, Debora Singer will run a very timely Workshop on Saving the Human Rights Act.

Here’s an outline of the workshop sent by Debora:

'In the workshop on saving the Human Rights Act, we cover what the Human Rights Act is – its history, the rights it covers, how it works, and its benefits in every day life (using real cases).  We also cover lobbying your MPs about the Human Rights Act.  The workshop is interactive so there is some group work (eg a quiz) as well as my presentations.'

We hope that many Amnesty members and their guests will be able to join us both in collecting for Amnesty's work and at Debora's Workshop.
