Manchester Amnesty Fortnightly Action and News
Please do this action and make a difference
Last week, the government tabled an extreme proposal in parliament to empower the police to further crack down on protests based on their ‘cumulative impact’. Widely regarded as a further attempt to curtail our right to protest, if enacted this provision would require the police to take into account the “cumulative impact” of potentially completely unrelated protests which happen to take place in one particular area.
Meanwhile, the violence that is still ongoing against the Palestinian people takes place with military, economic and political support from the British Government. Instead of acting to ends its complicity, the government wants to place yet more restrictions on our ability to protest about this appalling state of affairs.
The link below will take you to a PSC petition which calls on the government to withdraw the “cumulative impact” proposal.

Yemen - On October 25, 2025, Intissar al-Hammadi, a model arrested in 2021 on charges of "fornication" and "prostitution" for posting photos on social platforms of herself without a headscarf, and later sentenced to five years in prison, was released.
