Ken Loach directs this drama of a middle aged joiner in the North-East of England whose life is thrown into confusion when he needs help from the State due to ill health. He joins forces with a single mother who has been evicted from her home in London. Together they negotiate the bureaucracy of the benefits system. With humour, warmth and despair, the journey is heartfelt until the end.
