Human Rights in Colombia. Talk by Ian Mcgarr, AI Regional Coordinator.Thurs. 8th.Oct. 2015.

There will be a talk by Ian Mcgarr under the title 'Human Rights in Colombia - a Challenge for the Peace Process' on Thursday 8th. October 2015 at 7.30pm. UPDATE:

         Ian gave a very interesting talk, covering the historical perspective:    civil war involving a revolutionary group, FARC, coupled with the activities of paramilitary groups and compounded by government and  army complicity in the violence and human rights abuses resulting from this. Some possible progress with a recent peace agreement, but outcome of this at present uncertain. Amnesty has campaigned over some years for a particular rural community (Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado), caught up in this situation and Dundee Group have been involved in this along with many other human rights campaigners.    The talk was attended by a mixed group of sixteen people and followed by questions,.Amnesty members enjoyed an evening meal with Ian beforehand. Thanks are due to the Dept. of Law at Dundee University, who kindly suported this event by organising the venue.
