Amnesty International 50th. Anniversary Event

Amnesty International 50th. Anniversary Event

Posted: 03 December 2010

Following contact with a member of our group, Dundee City Council have generously agreed to plant a flower bed at Taybank, a highly visible site at the junction of East Dock Street and Broughty Ferry Road. This is to mark the 50th. Anniversary of the founding of Amnesty next year. The layout will feature the Amnesty candle surrounded by barbed wire and the lettering " 50 years of Amnesty" above it. On either side of the candle will be the dates - 1961-2011. Adjacent flower beds will be planted out with red geraniums to provide an eyecatching display.

The Contract Services Dept. of the City Council plan to plant the flower beds in May for flowering in July. Watch out for developments when the time comes round. We are very grateful to Council staff, particularly Jay Grant and Phil Logie for their help and expertise.

UPDATE:  The flower bed is doing very well. There will be a photocall to publicise the project on the morning of Thursday, 11th. August, which the Lord Provost has kindly agreed to attend. It is hoped that as many members of Amnesty International living in the Dundee area will also support this.
