What happened in Croydon Amnesty in February 2021.

During February we were joined by Sherry Azadi who spoke to us about her husband, Anoosheh Ashoori, who has been imprisoned in Iran since 2017 on unjust national security charges. Sherry spoke about the conditions in prison, the risk that Anoosheh might catch covid and her ongoing campaigning with Amnesty to seek his release. We are so grateful for Sherry coming to talk to us about Anoosheh’s situation and sharing practical action we can take to show our solidarity. We will be sending postcards and letters to let Anoosheh know he has not been forgotten and we hope soon he will be released and free to enjoy retirement with his family.

We also held our AGM, and Beverley, our chair, reflected on the previous year. It was difficult for us, like many organisations, but we kept going with speakers, campaigning and virtual fundraising. We have started the year with the same energy and enthusiasm and continue to meet remotely each month. We are always looking for new members to join us so please get in touch if you are interested. All are welcome.
