In Turkey in October 2007, just days before his 18th birthday, Ferhat Gercek was shot by police. As a result of his injuries he is now paralysed from the waist down.

The Colwyn Bay group of Amnesty International is hosted a Hot Pot Supper on Friday in September 2012, at the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club. Live music was provided by Orbit.
