Speech at Syria: The Road to Freedom - March and demonstration on 29 October 2011

Thank you. It is my great honor to speak atthis historical moment and to stand in solidarity with the Syrian people.

2011marks Arab Spring, to topple dictators. Tunisia Egyptian,Libyan people are continuing their democratization. Syrian people are practicing rights, protected inUniversal Declaration of Human Rights, to fight for their freedom. SinceFebruary, thousands of peaceful protesters have been killed. Syrian people havesuffered from injustice， oppression and tyrannyfor fifty years. Now Syria people need UN support. But P R China vetoed  UN resolution against  Bashar al-Assad regime. Forty years ago, the PRC, supported byauthoritarian regimes, took a permanent member of the U.N. SecurityCouncil.  In forty years, the PRChina has supported authoritarian regimes to oppress their people for humanrights and democracy. That’s why it is very important that globalcitizensstand together in solidarity against all the dictators. Practicing civil rights andstanding in solidarity with oppressed people are the road to freedom anddemocracy.

Thereis a similar political repression in PR China. During sixty-twoyears’ Chinese Communist rule, there is no free, fair, and transparent nationalelection in PR China. Millions of people have been killed. Now more and morepeople recognize that the PRC has no authority or credibility torepresent the people. Tibetan, Uighur and Chinese activists are practicinggrassroots self-determination and civil resistance. They are setting up independenttrade unions, independent peasant and nomadic organisations, fighting for freedomof expression and freedom of religion.

Global collective resistance andsolidarity withthe Syrian people will help Syrianpeople win their freedom, human rights and democracy.  All dictators must step down. Freedom and human rightsbelong to every citizen. Syria will be free.

今年突尼斯、埃及，利比亚人民推翻了独裁者， 正在继续他们的民主化过程。2月以来，叙利亚人民正在实践人权宣言所保护的权利，争取自由和人权。 数千名叙利亚的和平示威者被打死。叙利亚人民遭受五十年的不公正，压迫和暴政。现在，叙利亚人民需要联合国的支持。但中华人民共和国否决保护叙利亚人民，反对阿萨德政权的联合国议案。40年前，中华人民共和国在世界各地专制政权的支持下，获取了联合国安理会常任理事国。四十年来，中华人民共和国一直利用这一地位支持独裁政权压迫人民争取人权和民主。因此最重要的是全球公民团结一致，共同反抗所有独裁者, 实践公民权利和公民团结是通向自由和民主之途。

在中华人民共和国政治压迫类似于叙利亚。62年中共统治期间，没有一次自由公平和透明的全国大选。中共专制导致数以千万计人死亡。现在许多人认识到，中共统治非法，中华人民共和国不能代表人民。因此，有越来越多的藏族维族和汉族活动人士实践自决、自治和公民抵抗。他们成立独立工会，独立的农民和牧民组织，争取言论自由和宗教自由。

全球公民集体抵抗和团结终将帮助叙利亚人民获得赢得了他们的自由、人权和民主。所有独裁者必须下台，自由和人权属于每个公民。叙利亚必将自由。
