Winter peril in Peru and Mongolia

This evening's Channel 4 news had a report on 250 child deaths in Peru because of severe winter weather in the Andes.  Experts are blaming climate change as an important factor.

Many thousands of miles from Peru the weather in Mongolia is never moderate but summer droughts followed by early and extremely cold winters seem to be getting more common.  There is a Mongolian word for these viciously cold winters: zud or dzud.   One of these winters can kill millions of livestock and from 1999 there were three zuds in succession.
