The real disaster in Burma is the government

I agree that the real disaster in Burma is the government, to use a phrase I read on the Burma Campaign website where you can also view their short video featuring the voice of Ricky Gervais. A girl survives the cyclone but there are sadly no "happy ever after" endings in a country run by such a ruthless dictatorship.

If Aung San Suu Kyi had been allowed to form a government in accordance with the wishes of the electorate, how would the cyclone disaster have been handled?  Surely the people would have received a proper and prompt rescue and relief programme with international involvement.  This is just one reason why democracy does matter and why the people of a country should be able to kick out (peacefully I mean) leaders who are incompetent or dishonest.
