The Orwell Prize for political writing

I have written before about George Orwell and some of his books on this blog. He aimed to write in a clear and powerful way and he had political ideas that he wanted to communicate in books such as 1984.  That book was published in 1949 and Orwell died at the age of 46 in January 1950.

Honouring his name the Orwell Prize is given for political writing.  The next prize is due to be awarded on 24 April 2008. See the shortlist for books and the shortlist for journalism.

Update:   Johann Hari of the Independent won for his journalism and Raja Shehadeh got the prize for his book  Palestinian Walks.
