The UK must prioritise climate justice and help communities affected by the climate crisis

The climate crisis represents the single greatest threat to humanity. We’re reaching record temperatures every year.
Extreme weather events often threaten fundamental human rights like the right to health, clean water and shelter. The loss of these can trigger further crises, such as increased spread of diseases and displacement.
The UK was a historic emitter and is still a high-income fossil fuel producer. Actions by UK corporates and government have disproportionately impacted communities around the world - those who contribute the least are bearing the highest burdens.
For example, the communities living in the Niger Delta, Nigeria, have had their land, rivers and waters poisoned by Shell plc - a multibillion-dollar oil company based in London. Shell has yet to face any concrete consequences for this failure to protect people's human rights.
This needs to change.
Climate justice means prioritising people over profit, ensuring those affected are heard and protected.
The fight for climate justice is a fight for human rights
