Local and student groups activity pack, May 2014 - Refugee Week

16 - 22 June

Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events and activities that celebrates the contribution of refugees to the UK and promotes better understanding of why people seek sanctuary. Amnesty International UK is proud to be a partner of this multi-agency project.

This year, Refugee Week will celebrate the important part children and young refugees play in our shared futures, the wonderful contributions they are making to our society, and recognise the resilience and determination they show when rebuilding their lives in a strange, new country.

Anyone can take part in Refugee Week by organising, attending or taking part in a variety of activities.

What we're asking you to do

Get involved in simple acts of welcome

Simple Acts is about inspiring individuals to use small, everyday actions to change perceptions of refugees. We believe that if everyone does at least one of these simple actions, we could make a big change to the way refugees are perceived in the UK.

For more information about the Simple Acts campaign and how to get involved:

Host an event during Refugee Week event

If you do organise an event for Refugee Week, please be sure to add your event to the Refugee Week Events Calendar.

Promote your event
The Refugee Week team are producing promotional posters and postcards. Groups can order directly from the Community Organising team by emailing activism@amnesty.org.uk

Tell local press about your event
A template press release for local media will be sent out to group media workers at the end of May.

If you do not regularly receive template letters or press releases from our media team and would like to, or for any other help or assistance on media work, including local contacts for journalists in your area, please email Harriet Garland in our Press Office at harriet.garland@amnesty.org.uk
