Amnesty UK letter to Minister on plan to replace physical documentation with digital-only status

On 24 May 2021, the Government published its strategy paper - New Plan for Immigration: Legal Migration and Border Control. This includes a proposal to stop issuing people with physical documentation establishing their immigration status in the UK.

Amnesty UK's letter to the Immigration Minister sets out our concerns at this proposal and its already being rolled out; and makes several requests for information necessary to assess the full extent of the dangers facing people who face being left without any documentary evidence to establish their right to be in the UK and to work, rent, access healthcare and other ordinary and vital services or opportunities.
