Amnesty and PRCBC joint submission to the Joint Committee on Human Rights inquiry on the Human Rights of Children in the Social Care System
This submission addresses the citizenship rights of children in the social care system.
It explains how these citizenship rights concern the children's human rights; and the barriers that children in the social care system (and more widely) face to fulfilment of these rights.
Relevant barriers include a widespread failure to understand or act on these rights. This leads to a profound and ultimately alienating diminution by State bodies and others of these rights in ways that wrongly treat them as mere benefits or privileges rather than recognise them to be the fundamental entitlements of children who are as British by their identity and connection to the UK as any of their peers.
